Hydraulic piston - Bicelli Hydraulics
A short glossary on technology in hydraulic cylinders
The term hydraulic piston
usually means hydraulic cylinder
. Even though the right term is linear hydraulic actuator, in common language cylinders are often referred to as hydraulic pistons
Actually, pistons are just a component of hydraulic cylinders.
Cylinders are in fact composed by:
- the cylinder itself, consisting of the empty cylinder body;
- the rod with the piston moving inside the barrel.
Thus, from their components (the pistons), hydraulic cylinders as a whole have been identified.
Hydraulic pistons or cylinders
can be of different types: for example you will hear of a single acting hydraulic piston
or a double acting hydraulic piston
